Updates to Mental Health in the Workplace

Enhance Your First Aid Training with Mental Health Support!

The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) has just released an updated version of L74 – Guidance on The Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. This update emphasizes the importance of considering mental health in the workplace, alongside physical first aid.

The HSE state:

"It may also be helpful to have people trained to identify and understand mental ill health symptoms who are able to support someone who is experienced a mental health issue"

"You may decide that someone with an First Aid at Work (FAW) or Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification is already able to provide initial support and reassurance to a worker experiencing acute mental health episode, but you should consider if any further training is required."

"You should be satisfied that they:

1. know how to access professional help if necessary.

2. can act promptly, safely, and effectively until that help is available"
