           Men’s Health Awareness Month, particularly as observed during "Movember" is a crucial initiative to shed light on pressing issues affecting men's health, particularly mental health and suicide prevention. Here's why it is so significant:
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           Mental Health and Suicide Prevention
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Men account for four in five suicides, making suicide the leading cause of death for men under 35.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           In 2022, the highest suicide rates in the UK were seen in men aged 40 to 54. Despite these alarming statistics, many men are less likely to seek help due to societal pressures to "tough it out," perpetuating a cycle of silence and untreated mental health issues.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           Prevalence of Mental Health Conditions
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           In 2017, 12.5% of men in the UK were experiencing common mental health conditions such as depression or anxiety. This figure highlights the everyday struggles men face, yet many remain undiagnosed or untreated due to stigma.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           Social Disparities
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Men are disproportionately affected in areas such as substance dependency, being nearly three times as likely as women to develop alcohol dependency or report frequent drug use. Additionally, three-quarters of missing adults are men, pointing to potential underlying social and mental health challenges.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           How to Make a Difference
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

           Encouraging conversations, fostering awareness, and creating supportive environments are key steps in tackling these issues. According to Mind charity, one in six people in England experience a common mental health issue, such as anxiety or depression, each week, and three in 100 people are diagnosed with depression weekly. With these statistics, it's likely that someone you know might be struggling with depression right now—whether it's a family member, a friend, or even yourself.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           If you or someone close to you is dealing with depression or low mood, it's important to reach out for help. In this discussion, we’ll explore the steps to take if you or someone you know is struggling, and how activities like running can help manage and reduce symptoms of depression.

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

           Recognising Depression and Low Mood
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Depression affects a significant number of people, with between one in four and one in five individuals experiencing seriously low mood at some point in their lives. Various factors can contribute to feeling down, including work stress, unemployment, financial issues, relationship problems, illness, or the loss of a loved one. If a low mood persists for more than two weeks, it could indicate depression, even if there's no clear reason behind it.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Depression is characterised by a constant feeling of hopelessness, helplessness, and worthlessness that impairs daily activities like eating, sleeping, working, or enjoying life. According to the NHS, common symptoms of low mood and depression include:

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;ul&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Feeling sad or anxious
           &#xD;

    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Fatigue or difficulty sleeping
           &#xD;

            Low confidence or self-esteem

           What to Do if You Think You Have Depression
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           If you believe you may have depression, the first step is to seek help. Start by talking to someone you trust, such as a friend or family member. If you need to speak to someone anonymously, you can contact Samaritans by calling 116 123 or emailing jo@samaritans.org. In urgent situations where you have harmed yourself, you should call 999 or visit A&amp;amp;E immediately.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           If your low mood has lasted more than two weeks or you're struggling to cope, the NHS advises contacting your GP for a referral to mental health services.            Mental Health First Aid is a training program that teaches participants how to recognise the signs and symptoms of mental health issues, provide initial support, and guide individuals toward professional help when necessary. Developed by Australian mental health educators Betty Kitchener and Anthony Jorm in 2000, MHFA has since been adopted by countries worldwide, including the UK, USA, and Canada.

           A seizure, also known as a convulsion or fit
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           , is a sudden, uncontrolled electrical disturbance in the brain that affects body movements, sensations, and consciousness. Around 1 in 20 people will experience a seizure at some point in their lives, though not everyone who has a seizure will develop epilepsy.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           What Happens During a Seizure?
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Seizures occur due to abnormal electrical activity in the brain, and the effects depend on the part of the brain involved. They can range from brief absence seizures, where a person may simply appear unaware, to tonic-clonic seizures, which involve full-body convulsions. Most seizures last only a few minutes. However, if a seizure lasts longer than five minutes or if multiple seizures occur consecutively, it is essential to call emergency services.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Causes of Seizures
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

           Seizures can be triggered by anything that affects blood flow to the brain. Common causes include:
          &#xD;

    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Head injuries
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Brain tumours
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Stroke
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Infections like meningitis or malaria
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;

            Drug or alcohol use and withdrawal
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;

            High fever (especially in children)
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;

            Lack of oxygen
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;

            Epilepsy
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/ul&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Febrile Convulsions in Children
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Febrile convulsions, caused by a rapid rise in temperature, affect about 5 in 100 children under six years old. Although frightening, these seizures are rarely dangerous, and most children outgrow them by age five.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Epilepsy
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Epilepsy is diagnosed when a person experiences unprovoked seizures not caused by other medical conditions. It affects around 600,000 people in the UK, or about 1 in 100 individuals. While epilepsy can start at any age, it often begins in childhood or after age 60. It is generally a lifelong condition, managed with medication. The cause is unknown in over 50% of cases, though a family history may suggest a genetic link.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h3&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           First Aid for Seizures
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           During a seizure, it’s important to:
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;ul&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
             Loosen tight clothing and remove nearby objects to prevent injury.
            &#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Cushion the head
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Protect the casualty's dignity
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Record the start time and observe the seizure's phases, noting whether one side of the body is more affected.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            After the seizure, check the person's airway and breathing. If they’re unresponsive but breathing, place them in the recovery position; if not breathing, start CPR.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/ul&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Always call an ambulance if:
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;ul&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            It's their first seizure.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            The seizure lasts more than five minutes.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Another seizure follows immediately.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            The person is injured, unresponsive for over five minutes, or the seizure differs from previous ones.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            You are unsure as to severity of the seizure
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/ul&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           What Not to Do
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;ul&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Never put anything in their mouth.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Don’t try to restrain their movements.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Don’t move them unless they’re in immediate danger.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Don’t give them food or drink until fully recovered.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Never attempt to "wake them up" during a seizure.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/ul&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            On occasions, such as this week, White Rose Training help out other companies to deliver a course where they have no trainers in the Yorkshire area, which include many
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           national training brokers
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            (companies that operate as a ‘middleman’ service. They handle the administration of your training but don’t actually directly provide any of the training itself).
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

            (a 6-hour regulated course was scheduled for 4 hours) and the fact that the broker who took the booking then

           sub-contracted
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            to another broker who then contracted White Rose Training to deliver the training.

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           "I’ve recently read on the internet about something called ‘cough CPR’. The article claimed that if I have a heart attack and then do this, it could save my life. Is it true?"
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h1&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The answer is NO!
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h1&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The concept of "cough CPR" is a misconception that has circulated on the internet, but it is not supported by medical evidence. In the event of a heart attack, the most important action is to call emergency services immediately (e.g., 999) so that trained medical professionals can provide appropriate care.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           A heart attack occurs when blood flow to the heart muscle is blocked, typically by a blood clot. While it can lead to a cardiac arrest (where the heart stops pumping blood), coughing vigorously is not a reliable or effective method to manage this situation.

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           If someone is conscious during a heart attack, they are not in cardiac arrest and should not attempt cough CPR. Instead, they should seek urgent medical assistance. If a person experiences a cardiac arrest, they will become unconscious, and immediate CPR (chest compressions and rescue breaths) is necessary to maintain blood circulation until professional help arrives.

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           This update emphasizes the importance of considering mental health in the workplace, alongside physical first aid.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The HSE state:
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           "It may also be helpful to have people trained to identify and understand mental ill health symptoms who are able to support someone who is experienced a mental health issue"
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

           "You may decide that someone with an First Aid at Work (FAW) or Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification is already able to provide initial support and reassurance to a worker experiencing acute mental health episode, but you should consider if any further training is required."

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

            The full

            course is a three-day course where again the certificate lasts three years. The course is designed for those who would like to become a full first aider in their workplace. The course covers a range of topics      in-depth so that candidates can become a confident first aider and deliver first aid in any emergency situations. The course covers all the elements of the EFAW, but goes on to include trauma and medical emergencies.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

           Once the FAW certificate is nearing it's expiry date or has expired, first aiders can attend a

            First Aid at Work Requalification
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

            course over two days - only if the certificate is no more than 30 days past it's expiry date.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

            Despite the certificates lasting three years, we recommend a
